Get to Know God - a 28-day Project - Epilogue

This is not the end, it is just the beginning!  Keep asking questions!  Here's one more:
"Question. — What is God?
Answer. — God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love.
Question. — Are these terms synonymous?
Answer. — They are. They refer to one absolute God. They are also intended to express the nature, essence, and wholeness of Deity. The attributes of God are justice, mercy, wisdom, goodness, and so on."  (SH 465:8-15)

We have just scratched the infinitesimal surface of a new point of view on how to Get to Know God.   We only explored 4 qualities for each synonym for God and there are a whole lot more!  If you wish to continue to your exploration of God in this way, here is a list of several more qualities organized under the seven synonyms for God.
If you really want to deepen your understanding of God in this way, I urge you to get the comprehensive work on this subject, Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy which can be purchased online.  Or, if you want to buy one at a bookstore and be able to chat with someone about it, check your local White or Yellow Pages listings for a Christian Science Reading Room near you.

If you just want someone to talk to about it, don't hesitate to contact me and we can continue the conversation.

Above all, have fun Getting to Know God!!

Day 3 – Mercy

mer·cy/mur-si-/ η: 1 compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence.  2 the disposition to be compassionate or forbearing.  3 an act of kindness, compassion, or favor.  4 something that gives evidence of divine favor; blessing.

“For the Lord your God is merciful - he will not abandon you or destroy you.” (NLT, Deut 4:31)
Contemplate that God is characterized by expressing or showing mercy.  Substitute the word “he” for “mercy” in the foregoing Bible quote, as in “mercy will not abandon you” or “mercy will not destroy you”?  How does that open us God’s presence in your life?

Awareness Exercise:  Throughout your day, be open to detecting mercy in operation.   Can you see the mournful being comforted?  Can you see the captive be set free?  Don’t just look for literal captivity, but notice how yourself or others may be captives of lack, of sickness, of limitations, of thought.

“For “who is so great a God as our God!” unchangeable, all-wise, all-just, all-merciful; the ever-loving, ever-living Life, Truth, Love: comforting such as mourn, opening the prison doors to the captive, marking the unwinged bird, pitying with more than a father’s pity”.  (Miscellaneous Writings (Mis) by Mary Baker Eddy 124:12-18)
